OVERCOMING OBSTACLES TO REVITALIZE AGRICULTURE IN THE COUNTRY
Despite the country’s high potential, the lack of prospects generates a massive rural exodus and most of the young people go to swell the ranks of the unemployed in the suburbs of Dakar or, worse, take the path of illegal emigration often tragically reaching our shores.
In the country, agriculture and animal husbandry are among the leading sectors of the local economy but, often, the area’s potential is stifled by obstacles: lack of access to water, quality and compliant seeds and plant protection products; lack of economic means to modernize agriculture; lack of training; marketing difficulties; lack of processing facilities; soil degradation; and lack of waste management.
The geographical area in which ASeS intends to contribute to socio-economic development and poverty alleviation has a strong agricultural vocation, particularly horticulture and fruit growing.
